Five Garages, watercolour, 52 x 52 cm (20 x 20")
I had looked at and photographed these somewhat shabby garages for some time before the scene eventually evolved into a painting. The key to the composition
was to play with the direction of the sunlight to create the tree shadows that cut across the autumn leaves and add a strong perspective element. The colours are
enhanced to bring richness to a very ordinary scene. I love the way each garage doors seems to have its own personality.
