Danielle, Rising, oil on wood, 122 x 122 cm (48 x 48")
Danielle is a friend, model and muse. I used a series of photographs of her diving, rising and floating in the pool for inspiration. I enjoy painting what
cannot be seen directly. I wanted a balanced composition, with her head and shoulders being the focus. Her shadow adds depth without pulling the eye
away from her. I love painting distortion while still maintaining an overall realistic style. I use a filigree of shapes that are quite simple when viewed up
close. I use a combination of wet on dry and alla prima paint application styles.
