Val Andrews is an Australian who has been living in the UK for the last 3½ years.
Andrews loves to paint the British landscape, but every now and then feels the
urge to paint something Australian. In this case, she chose to paint a portrait of
Australian actor David Gulpilil.
Walkabout is a portrait of Australian actor David Gulpilil. His fi rst role was in the
Australian classic 'Walkabout' (1971). His last role was in the fi lm 'Australia' (2008).
David Gulpilil has since returned to the bush to live as a respected elder of the
Yolngu tribe in Arnhem Land, in the top end of Australia.
VAL ANDREWS has been painting for just over 10 years and is mostly self-taught, although during
the last 3 years she has undertaken some training to develop her representational skills. Andrews’
work does, however, retain a naive quality. She is also a print-maker, specialising in etching.
