Sharon Griffi n’s current body of work is about capturing expression using the
fi gure and the face. Working from live models and photographs provides her
with accurate information which then can be altered to suit a theme.
Griffi n is inspired by a narrative or the story of an everyday moment in life; the
tired face of a mother seeing her children after work, characters from a play, a
response to a news article in the media.

Griffi n wishes to evoke 'feeling' and mirror the 'gesture' through the use of fast
marks, quick making techniques and 'sketches'. Her fi gurative sculptures and
paintings sometimes have an unfi nished quality which adds to the idea that the
subject is a suggestion of a living being rather than being totally representational.
It is important to Griffi n that her fi gures have an identity and are able to connect
with an audience in a non-physical sense.
Grandad Jim is a portrait of Griffi n’s Grandad who she met for the fi rst time at
Christmas in 2013. Sitting next to her in a restaurant, he told her all about his
60 year long career as a bus driver. As Griffi n sat there listening to his strong
Shropshire accent, she took her smart phone from her pocket and took a picture
of him when he wasn't looking. In her portraits Griffi n tries to capture something
of the person and hopes to have done her Grandad Jim justice.
SHARON GRIFFIN attended the University of Wolverhampton and graduated with a BA (hons)
Degree in 3D Design (Ceramics) in 1997. Griffi n now works as a part time lecturer at her local
college through which she aspires to educate and introduce art to a wider audience within
her community. Griffi n’s work can be purchased from Jenny Gunning, Fine Arts and Framing,
 Ironbridge, Telford, UK.
