Julia Romano’s work goes deeper into the fact that representation makes the existence of landscape possible. It is the moment the artists
start painting their surroundings on their canvases when the territory becomes landscape. Our observation is conditioned by the multiplicity
of ways in which landscape has been represented during the history of art; therefore we do not observe our surroundings in a static, unique
way, but as a plastic production.
Her work refl ects the encounter of the patches of iconography that creates the cultural imagery. These images account for another possibility
of the world, they make it up each time we observe our surroundings and project our humanness on it.
The dialogue between painting and photography, in her work, strives to be a mechanism for revealing the value of representation on
the construction of an image of the world; an excuse to recognize how art displays its power over what we see and its excellence as
a reality–maker.
