 Mette Fruergaard-Jensen makes boxes in a wide variety of materials expressing her
 abiding love for functional objects.  These boxes are sculptural and functional at
 the same time, her aim being a marriage between form, function and materials.
 While she experiments with many traditional materials and methods it is important
 to Mette that her work maintains a contemporary aesthetic.
 She  explores  the  use  of  different  materials  such  as  metal,  plastic,  resin,  and
 hardwood.  Combining these various contrasting elements is essential to Mette’s
 work and expresses her love of the silent language of materials.
 METTE FRUERGAARD-JENSEN trained as a potter at the Art and Crafts School in Copenhagen,
 now  called the Danish Design School (1969) she then completed one year at the Art Academy
 of  Wroclaw, Poland (1977).  In 1995  Mette  began to  develop an interest  in other  materials,
 especially wood and metal, and moved to the UK in 2000, where she further pursued this shift
 in  focus.  She  has  exhibited  in  a  number  of  group  exhibitions  including  ‘Celebrating  Boxes’,
 (a UK touring exhibition 2002), ‘Gifted’ at National Museum, Edinburgh, (2007), ‘Wych Elm’ at
 Edinburgh  Royal  Botanic  Garden  (2009),  ‘Unite’  Collins  Gallery,  Glasgow,  UK  (2011),  SOFA  -
 Small Objects Functional art + design, Chicago IL, USA.( 2013) with Craft Scotland. She is part of
 the exhibition ‘Danish Diaspora’ touring Scotland in 2015.
