SOMA

SOMA is a contemporary British-Nigerian artist based in London. His recognizable style incorporates controlled
scribbling and asemic writing to create instinctive compositions that strive for both meaning and mystery.
Heavily influenced by his practice as a qualified play therapist, his lyrical and abstract works tell stories about
the therapy toolkit and process, aiming to demystify the therapeutic experience and bridge the gap between
concrete experience and abstract thought. SOMA has exhibited extensively with works sought after by
collectors across the globe. He has been featured in publications such as Estila and Suboart and is
represented by the international art agency Artiq.

‘’Qualified as a play therapist, I see first-hand the power of creativity within the therapeutic process. My artwork explores
topics within the therapy realm ranging from elements of the play therapy toolkit, experiences from my own childhood, and
the intangibles of the healing process. I am inspired by the ways that children use mark-making and creativity to make
sense of the world. I take this foundation and channel it through other influences such as attachment theory, the Tao Te
Ching, and hip-hop and jazz music to explore the healing process and try to understand more about the human condition.
My artwork is heavily process driven and utilizes a mixture of mediums in an attempt to capture the free spirit of
             childhood.’’
