Dj has been drawing and painting for as long as he can remember, and creating artwork has always been
a driving force and passion in his life. For Dj, art is a way of living, and everyday can surprise and inspire. Dj
fi nds painting portraits the most challenging of all subjects to paint, but by far the most rewarding. There are
many subtle colours, marks and details in a face that can help to capture the essence of a person, and if
you are patient enough and can look with the right eyes, there is so much to see - a philosophy that also
refl ects in his paintings. Dj’s style has developed through many years of experience working in professional
fi ne art studios - designing and producing artwork for hotels, restaurants, commercial spaces, public areas
                       and private estates worldwide.
Now an independent freelance artist, he enjoys spending some of his time teaching art classes and running
mural-painting workshops throughout the UK and Europe. It has been said that his work frequently stops
viewers in their tracks as it so effectively captures the magic of the natural world that surrounds us.
Daisy is portrait of the artist’s 12 month old daughter Daisy Florence Johnson. The most challenging aspect
of this portrait was to reproduce the soft unblemished skin of a toddler’s face. Any visible brush-marks made
Daisy appear older, so most of the blending of her skin was done by the artist using his fi ngers. She has
very bright shining eyes and a cheeky character which Dj has managed to sneak into her smile. The funky
looking Peruvian hat and sheepskin snooze pillow provided him with some interesting challenges in texture.
If you look closely, you may be able to fi nd her name painted somewhere in the portrait.
