Ronis Varlaam

             Ronis  Varlaam  is  a  painter,  photographer  and  fi lm-
             maker.    As  a  painter  he  often  works  at  the  interface
             of  representation  and  abstraction,  photography  and
             painting, darkness and light.
             As a photographer he believes in pure photography. As
             a  fi lm-maker  he  has  made  several  documentaries  for
             television and now makes short videos for galleries and
             fi lm festivals.
             WHO  IS  THIS?  -  Portraits  by  Photoshop,  is  a  series  of
             portraits  based  on  the  algorithmic  facial  recognition
             software  found  in  the  image  editor.  Each  artwork  is  a
             triptych  consisting  of  the  original  photograph,  the  2nd
             part is an oil painting based on what Photoshop thinks is
             a portrait, and the 3rd part is a photograph taken from
             the Photoshop page. In an exhibition not all 3 parts have
             to be shown.
             RONIS  VARLAAM    is  a  painter  and  fi lm-maker.  He  has  exhibited
             widely,  venues  including;  Creekside  Open,  the  Residence
             Gallery, Royal Watercolour Society, Venice Biennale, the Alsager
             Gallery Manchester Metropolitan University, Winchester College,
             Five  Years,  Studio  Voltaire,  Kirkby  Gallery,  St.  Pancras  Crypt,
             30  Underwood  Gallery,  Gallery  K,  Cooltan  Arts,  the  House  of
             William Blake, Florean Museum Romania, the Stone Gallery, Red
             Wire Gallery Liverpool, Oblong Gallery and elsewhere. As a fi lm-
             maker he has produced and directed several documentaries for
             Television, mainly Channel 4.
