Siobhan Connor’s work has always focused on body issues such as Anorexia and
Disfi gurements, but recently her work has started to focus on an issue that is taking
over the media: Obesity.
With obesity on the rise and increased awareness of this problem, are people
changing their ways knowing how badly their health is at risk? The media coverage
on body issues has been her main impetus over the past few years.
Artists such as Jenny Saville, Egon Schiele, and Lucian Freud have infl uenced the
techniques, colour and scale of Connor’s work.
Abject (1) focuses on looking at the abject; something that is experienced to the
maximum degree. This piece looks at what is happening inside the body in terms
of obesity. The box represents the outside of a human fi gure and the material
oozing out of the box showing body fat that’s stored inside our bodies.
SIOBHAN M.J CONNOR has recently completed BA (Hons) Fine Art at Wirral Metropolitan
College (John Moores University) and has exhibited work in Second Sight, The Gallery, Liverpool
(2013) and at the Williamson Art Gallery (2014).
