Paul
McCloskey
Paul McCloskey, a painter based in Wexford, Ireland, draws inspiration from the Irish landscape, imagination,
memory, and emotion to explore themes of divinity and spirituality. His creative process emphasizes presence
and catharsis, serving as a meditation that transcends the ego. The ever-changing Irish weather and fleeting
light often highlight hidden beauty in landscapes, fostering a sense of connection to nature’s spirit and the
multidimensional nature of spirituality—merging heaven and earth, solid and amorphous.
Originally from Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan, Paul studied at the National College of Art and Design in
Dublin and earned an MFA from De Montfort University, UK, in 2010. He also completed the Turps London CC
art course in 2021/22. With over 30 years in visual art education, Paul is a professional member of Visual
Artists Ireland.
He has exhibited widely in Ireland, the UK, Europe, and the U.S., with works held in significant collections,
including the Office of Public Works, Osten Gallery in Macedonia, and the Smurfit Art Collection. Awards
include the Osten Biennial Special Award (2016) and the London Contemporary Art Award (2018). Paul’s art
and career are featured in prominent publications like *Art Talk Collective*, *Creative Quarterly*, and *The
Contemporary Art Review*.
